Inclusion Team

Inclusion

At Birkenhead High School Academy every child matters, every child deserves to be safe and every child has the right to an outstanding education. Our staff community believe that happy, contented, socially stable, stimulated and engaged pupils learn best and at Birkenhead High School Academy these factors are at the heart of our curriculum, our policies and our school practices.

Our school prides itself on its pastoral care, tailored provision and inclusive practices. Our curriculum and daily ‘Value’ assemblies celebrate differences, promote tolerance and ensure that all of our pupils have a voice – despite any language barriers, disabilities or learning delays.

BHSA follows guidance from Keeping Children Safe in Education 2020, Disability Act, Equality Act 2010 and SEND Code of Practice 2015 in writing, implementing and continually monitoring policies, systems and procedures, and as tools to ensure inclusivity, transparency and fairness.

At BHSA we have an Inclusion Team led by the academy SENCO Miss Kennerley and Inclusion Team Lead Miss Morris. Their team consists of teaching assistants, higher level teaching assistants and learning mentors. This team works closely with teachers to support the early identification of special needs; facilitates educational or pastoral intervention; supports play-time social skills and ‘effective play’ and provides ongoing mental health coaching/mentoring sessions.
