About Us
Founded in 1901, Birkenhead High School Academy (BHSA) is a thriving, state-funded all-through (3–19) academy open to all girls in the area. Unique to the Wirral, we combine a rich heritage with a forward-thinking approach, serving as a beacon of excellence in girls' education.
Our Philosophy: Learning Without Limits
At BHSA, we believe in Learning without limits. We maintain the highest standards in achievement, attendance, appearance, and conduct, creating an environment where girls are encouraged to stretch themselves, take risks, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Both inside and outside the classroom, students receive outstanding academic and pastoral support, coupled with an extensive enrichment programme designed to help them grow into fearless, confident, and responsible young women.
Our Core Values
Our close-knit family community is built upon three essential values that guide our students every day:
-
Be Respectful – Valuing ourselves, others, and our environment.
-
Be Forgiving – Building resilience, understanding, and emotional maturity.
-
Be Kind – Fostering a supportive, compassionate, and inclusive environment.
The GDST Family
BHSA is proud to be sponsored by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), a network of 25 schools across England and Wales educating over 20,000 pupils. As pioneers in girls' education, the GDST is a charitable trust that reinvests all income directly back into its schools to benefit its students.
As part of this high-achieving community, BHSA students consistently achieve top national academic results. Our girls actively benefit from and contribute to the GDST’s extensive network, sharing in a wider family culture that shapes the leaders of tomorrow.
