Inspiring young scientists at BHSA Junior School

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Elsie Gaskell from the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences for delivering an incredible Science Club to our Year 5 and 6 pupils this term.
Supported by the LJMU Outreach Team, Dr. Gaskell brought the magic of the laboratory directly to our school. Moving from her usual university lecture halls to BHSA Junior School, she provided our students with a unique opportunity to step outside the standard curriculum and explore science in a hands-on, professional way.
The programme was specifically designed to give our pupils a taste of life as a real researcher. Throughout the sessions, students gained hands-on experience using authentic scientific equipment that they might not usually encounter until much later in their education. By generating their own data, analysing results, and drawing their own conclusions, the children were able to see the "cool" side of science beyond the classroom. Dr. Gaskell’s sessions successfully sparked a genuine curiosity and a love for the subject, empowering our budding scientists to see the magic in every observation.
Dr. Gaskell noted how impressed she was by the pupils' eagerness to learn and their excitement at seeing science in action. We are so grateful for her passion and time in helping to bring the world of professional science to life for our students.
