Bursaries & Awards
Sixth form bursaries
Birkenhead High School Academy administers the Department for Education’s 16-19 Bursary Fund, designed to help students overcome financial barriers and stay in education. For the 2026/27 academic year, two types of bursaries are available to students who are under 19 on August 31, 2026.
The Discretionary Bursary is available to students with a household income below £25,000 (with some flexibility based on dependants) to help cover costs like travel, school meals, books, and equipment.
The Vulnerable Bursary provides up to £1,200 per year for specific groups, including young people in care, care leavers, and those receiving certain disability or income benefits.
To apply, students must complete an online application and submit the required financial or official evidence. Please note that receiving bursary funding is strictly conditional on meeting the Academy's agreed standards for attendance and behaviour. Clear, transparent processes—including a complaints and appeals procedure—are in place for all applications.
